Keeping the same engagement session theme from last week. I thought I would share an early fall engagement session from last year. Fall is always a very popular time to photograph, and we always suggest reserving these dates as early as possible.

One important items that we always stress to our clients is the importances of engagement sessions. This is the opportunity to get to know your photographer, and for them to get to know you. In today's digital world, a lot of our clients never even meet us in person when reserving us, so this may be the first time that we get to meet in person, and we always try to avoid waiting until the wedding day if possible.
This also helps us as the photographer to understand how you respond to the camera, and allows the couple to know how we work as photographers. It is very important that you build a strong relationship with your photographer. This can be tough, with the limited amount of time you interact with the each other before the wedding, every opportunity helps.
With every genre of photography there needs to be a connection. Even portrait photographers, that are only doing headshots for corporate clients or profiles, long for the opportunity to build that relationship. This is what shows the real you.
Lastly, there just fun!! You get to be the real you, you can bring props, pets, outfit changes and go to your favorite couple hang out spot.
Here is a few more examples :)

They were referred to us from a previous wedding couple, and we could not have been more fortunate, to have had the chance to photograph them. Such a gorgeous couple with a great since of style and new exactly what they wanted. The engagement session was in Chicago at the art museum. It was early spring, and not the warmest time of year, so the opportunity to go inside was welcoming. Some of our favs are below. Along with a video of the entire session.

Unfortunately, it was a rainy day, but that did not change how beautiful this couple was and how beautiful there wedding was. The couple, had such great love for each other that it truly showed in every image. Staying connected during your reception allows the photographer, to capture the timeless images that most couple are always asking us for. To many times, couples get pulled different directions throughout the night. It’s understandable, your friends and family are there and are fighting for your attention.
There are ways to plan for these types of images, without posing.
Just like weddings, a maternity session could be one of those sessions where you do not get a second chance to photograph. This session would fall into this category. The expecting mother, was told that she could have her baby any day, and of course the first session we scheduled, it rained. After rescheduling and some great weather on the second session We were able to get some great images of the family.
Some sessions we focus on Black and White more than others, and this would be one of those situations. The couple classic attire and the beautiful setting of Happy Hollow Park in West Lafayette, Indiana, really help make the images.
Sometimes maternity sessions can be overlooked, due to the stress of all of the changes happening just before child birth. However, it's really a one time chance to be able to capture this part of life.
Below are a few more images from the session.

We recently had the opportunity to photograph Abby's Senior Pictures. We started downtown Lafayette to take advantage of the Alley Ways and local graffiti. We love urban settings for Senior Sessions and Lafayette has some interesting backdrops.
The Advantage of photographing on location is, you have unlimited options for backdrops. This is why we never went the studio route. Studio's can really limit your options, of course you are limited on weather conditions, but the results really pay off. Urban setting can be casual or sophisticated, the options are yours.
Of course you can mix it up, like Abby did. After shooting downtown we headed to the Celery Bogs in West Lafayette, just 10 minutes away. This changed the entire setting. The Celery Bogs in West Lafayette offers a great backdrop. It's probably one of our favorite places to photograph.
Sometimes these area's can get interesting for the photographer, I had to climb off of a small bridge to get the angel that I needed.
The images opportunities are also great here. Tall grass, shaded trails, water backdrops etc... There is also a great place here to change outfits as well, which is a big plus. The Bog can be busy, so weekdays are best.

So with that being said, we plan to post as often as time will allow and talk about whatever experiences happen. Sometimes we will talk about our latest shoots, tips on how to prepare if you are a client, and whatever random stuff we have going on, because we know you want to hear about our day to day lives:). Oh did I mention that you will have to get used to my sense of humor.
To start with I thought I would give you some background on our photography journey. It all started 12 years ago, when we photographed my sister n-laws wedding. I had no clue what I was doing, but she needed a photographer on a budget and I needed a reason to convince my wife I needed to buy some new toys (cameras stuff)! After that, it kind of just happened. The next year, we had 40 weddings and whatever else came our way, we now had fallen into a business. From 2006-2012 our market was Columbus Ohio. Then these two trouble makers came along.
Because life was just a little too crazy with two little midgets running around, we decided to go a different route for a few years. For 3 years we lived in North Carolina, 2 hours from the beach (that regardless of what my wife says, we never went to) and focused on raising our little girls. Life happened again, and we found ourselves in West Lafayette, IN. Our girls started school and our time to start photographing again was back.
So this is our journey in a nutshell. I hope you enjoy our future post!!!
